I always carry my phone with me when I run. There are several reasons for this. It tracks how far I run. I can also look at the map to figure out which route I want to take. If I need to call Paul to pick me up because I’ve injured myself or need water, then I am able. Sometimes I listen to music.
But another reason I carry my phone, is that I often stumble across beautiful scenery, or interesting situations, and I snap a photo. Some of my favorite memories of places involve sites I discovered while running.
Below are some of the prettiest #viewsfrommyrun
Railay, Thailand

I ran from Railay along a hilly forest path with downed electrical wires (yikes!), and ended at this lovely beach.
Moorea, French Polynesia

Truth be told, I actually ran on a treadmill in Moorea, but the gym looked out on this startling blue hued ocean.
Carrickalinga, Australia

South Australia has some impressive beaches that make for remarkable backdrops during a run.
Southern Coast of Sri Lanka (Tangalle and Unawatuna)

I’m seeing a theme here……so.many.beaches. It’s true though. I love running in the heat and near water. There’s nothing better than going for a run along the ocean, then jumping into the water at the end.
Vail, CO, USA

All right, I’m changing it up a bit. Running in Vail was beautiful, but so, so tough. Running at altitude is a whole different kettle of fish from running at sea level. The weekend before this picture was taken, I had completed a 17 mile race, but in Vail, I barely eeked out 2.5 miles.
Granada, Spain

City running can be stressful if there’s not a park or river to run along, but lovely buildings and old fortresses, such as those in Granada, may compensate for that.
Borneo, Malaysia

I don’t usually enjoy running on sand (I prefer a path or sidewalk adjacent to the ocean), but running on this deserted beach in Borneo was exhilarating. I literally did not see another person during the entire run to the end of the beach and back.
Kotor, Montenegro

Having a morning run – and I am NOT a morning runner- along the bay of Kotor was such a refreshing experience. It was one of those places where I had to force myself not to stop every 30 seconds to snap a photo.
Savannah, GA, USA

While competing in the Publix Women’s half marathon, I was able to appreciate Savannah’s lovely old buildings, and trees dripping in Spanish moss.
Koh Rong, Cambodia

I found some trails to run along on this Cambodian island. Although there was no shade, and the sun blazed down, the views were spectacular.
Villamagna, Italy
Now, part of this is sentimental, as Villamagna is where my relatives live. Yet, it can’t be denied that the Italian countryside in Abruzzo is remarkable.
Luang Prabang, Laos

I didn’t encounter many other runners, and at times there was a fair amount of traffic in Luang Prabang, but the views of the Mekong River were lovely.
Azille, France

There’s something meditative about running through vineyards, as I discovered in southern France. This photo really doesn’t do the location justice.
Florence, Italy

Everything about Florence is pretty: the buildings, the food, the parks, the churches. Pushing yourself to run up a very long hill at the end of the day to see the sunset over the city is immensely rewarding.
Bora Bora, French Polynesia

One last beach run. Bora Bora really was one of the prettiest places I’ve ever run. It was so hard to keep moving and not stop every few feet to capture the vivid aquamarine lagoon.
