

The drive here, one of the few daytime buses we have taken, was utterly stunning. I’ve never seen anything comparable before. Tall, missile shaped mountains protrude from valleys that are cut in half by rivers.
As the bus wound its way along mountain roads, every passenger was staring for hours in wonder out the windows at the breathtaking emerald landscape.


The water at kuang si is bright blue as a result of calcium carbonate in the limestone rocks reflecting light.

The weather was overcast when we went to the falls, but they were still impressive. We can imagine how vibrant the color is when the sun is striking the water.
We scaled to the top, which had a nice lookout. Then, we left the main path in search of a secret pool we had heard of. We weren’t exactly meant to go to this pool, and had to climb over a couple of barriers to get there.
Looking back, with knowledge of the tragic circumstance of tourists at a different waterfall, we should have obeyed the warning signs. But at the time, it was so worth it. We swam in a pool completely alone, with the falls thundering down next to us. It was the quintessential waterfall experience.
