When I was 4 years old, my biggest dream was to be in The Sound of Music. Everyday after kindergarten, my best friend and I watched the movie and acted out the scenes. We leaped from couch to couch during the “I am 16” song, and climbed the bookshelves when the children were in the trees, and danced to “so long farewell”. In Salzburg, nearly 3 decades later, I was able to make those dreams come true.
“I am 16 going on 17”
We joined Fraulein Maria’s bike tour. Pedaling through the streets of Salzburg, we saw many filming locations from the movie. Embarrassingly, the guide made us sing along at each sight. I say it was embarrassing, but in truth, I was so excited.

Another day, Paul, Lindsay and I spent the day at Wolfgangsee Lake, where we hiked from one town to the next.“The hills are alive…”
In the mountains, I was able to spin and twirl and sing my heart out, fully aware that I looked ridiculous and probably made the cows cringe with my terrible voice.
Salzburg is a quaint, picturesque city, with a lot of history. However my main only reason for visiting it was to see where The Sound of Music was filmed. I’m not sure if Paul and Lindsay feel quite as enthusiastic as I do, but I’m thrilled that I was finally able to feel like I was in The Sound of Music.
